Panel to talk Kulani closure
The state Senate Committee on Public Safety & Military Affairs is holding an informational meeting today at 8:30 a.m. in State Capitol Room 16 on the closure of Kulani Correctional Facility outside Hilo.
According to a written statement from committee chairman Will Espero, a leeward Oahu Democrat, the discussion will include destruction of government records, equipment and other items by open burning, as well as issues of theft and missing state inventory.
The possibility of violations of federal and state laws, county ordinances, and administrative rules will be determined.
The individuals allegedly involved with the records destruction are scheduled to testify.
No public testimony will be accepted.
