On Saturday Jan 10, the Rock Island Riders teamed up with DOFAW and DOCARE to greet users of Mauna Kea’s R-1. The objective was to educate users on responsible access and use on Mauna Kea. Some fourty users showed up that day.
Hopefully the word will spread through all user communities, hunters, hikers, OHV enthusiasts, mountain bikers, and all others who just enjoy the great outdoors. Yes, we all can get along and co-exist if we respect the land and each other. All concerns can be addressed from the environmental, to Hawaiian culture, to the recreational needs of our community.
Mahalo to all who participated: Ed Ung, Wayne Anders, Robert Misajon, Alan Meford, Dennis Vierra, Lei Vierra, Irv Kawashima, Ed Shishido, James Weller and Verl Nakama.
